Abstract
A novel method for solving the Helmholtz equation is proposed, it is a pplied to two dimensional electromagnetic scattering problems at high wave numbers. The idea of the method is to look for the periodic solut ions of the wave equation using an exact controllability methodology. The least squares formulation of the problem is solved by a preconditi oned conjugate gradient. Applications to harmonic wave scattering by c omplex obstacles are considered.
