A coupled model is developed to calculate mechanical deformation of ma
gnetic materials in magnetic field. The two equations governing magnet
ic and mechanical phenomena are solved simultaneously using finite ele
ment method. The magnetic force distribution is calculated through a l
ocal application of virtual work principle. The saturation of the mate
rial is considered. The non-linear coupled system is solved by the New
ton-Raphson method, the whole matrix is symmetrized. An example is giv
en and shows the effectiveness of the model.
