Abstract
Emission spectra and luminescence rates of Re(CO)(3)L(2)X (L(2) = pyri
dine: or bisquinoline derivatives, X = halide) have been measured in v
arious media at temperatures between 298 and 77 K. The emission has be
en associated with parallel relaxations of two excited states: an intr
aligand state and a metal-to-ligand charge-transfer state. Rates of em
ission correlate with the excited state - ground state energy gap. Mec
hanisms mixing intraligand with charge-transfer states are proposed as
means to explain the dependence of the emission rate on temperature.
