Results are presented on the biochemical differentiation of four taxa
from the nominate subgenus Alticola that allow phylogenetic inferences
to be drawn to the time scale and the sequence of ancestry within thi
s subgeneric lineage. A cladistic analysis of biochemical differences
among taxa supports some recent systematic arrangements of this group
which focus on morphology and karyology.
