ANTIBIOTIC-RESISTANCE IN LISTERIA SPP

Until recently, the Listeria genus was thought to be uniformly suscept ible to antibiotics. Since the first detection in 1988 of a multiply r esistant strain of L. monocytogenes, other cases of antibiotic resista nce were described in Listeria spp. Presence of antibiotic resistant s trains in this bacterial genus should be monitored and genetic support and epidemiology of resistance should be studied in order to limit th eir dissemination and adjust antibiotherapy.
