Abstract
Inmarsat is considering developing a handheld personal satellitephone in the 1998-2000 timeframe. The paper addresses some of the main syste m design issues as well as examples of satellite and mobile equipment characteristics. Inmarsat is an international mobile satellite organis ation with 68 member countries and operates a member of voice and data systems in 135 countries.
