M. Song et A. Steiff, SIMULATION OF VAPORIZATION HEIGHT BY CONSIDERING THE SIZE DISTRIBUTION OF DROBBLES IN DROBBLE COLUMNS, Chemical engineering and processing, 34(2), 1995, pp. 87-95
A model for drobbles in drobble columns, based on the concept of phase
space and the population balance equation, is presented. This model a
llows a consideration of the growth, breakage and coalescence of two-p
hase drobbles. The splitting step method is employed in the numerical
calculation while the Monte Carlo method is used for handling the brea
kage and coalescence of drobbles. The vaporization height is a very im
portant parameter in the engineering design of drobble columns with a
vaporizing dispersed phase. Obviously this height has statistical char
acteristics. The model has been used for the simulation of vaporizatio
n height in this kind of system. The simulation results are in good ag
reement with experimental data not only qualitatively but also quantit
atively. Detailed information about the variation of distribution dens
ity functions with column height is given both without and with consid
eration of the breakage and coalescence of drobbles.
