M. Reeslev et al., A VIBRATING REED VISCOMETER, SENSITIVE TO CHANGES IN THE CONCENTRATION OF EXOPOLYSACCHARIDE AND MYCELIAL BIOMASS AND TO THE MORPHOLOGY OF THE MYCELIUM, Biotechnology techniques, 9(3), 1995, pp. 191-196
Broth from batch fermentations with Aureobasidium pullulans was invest
igated with a vibrating reed viscometer which showed to be sensitive t
o changes in the concentration of exopolysaccharide as well as in the
concentration of mycelial biomass. Samples were withdrawn at 11.5, 13.
5, and 20 hours after inoculation and measurements on dilution series
of mycelium showed that the change in the age and therefore in the mor
phology of the mycelium markedly affected the sensor signal.
