A new type of addition products in the reaction of cyano-substituted k
etenes with alkyl-oxiranes is reported. The formation of methylallylic
esters of the ketenes corresponding acids is explained by an ''ene''-
like reaction, with ketene as ''enophile'' and tile C-O bond of the ox
irane playing the role of the ''ene'' double bond.
