K. Swaminathan et A. Selvaraj, EFFECT OF VARIOUS FUNGICIDES AND THEIR MODE OF APPLICATION ON THE INCIDENCE OF PADDY BROWN SPOT DISEASE, Tropical agriculture, 71(3), 1994, pp. 204-207
The efficacy of three fungicides, ziram (Cuman L(R)), maneb (Dithane(R
) M-45), and IBP (Kitazin(R)), in the control of brown spot disease of
paddy (IR 50) was tested in a field trial. Four modes of application
were used: (1) as a dressing to infected sprouted seeds; (2) as a root
dip for infected seedlings; (3) as a single foliar spray to transplan
ted seedlings; and (4) as three foliar sprays to transplanted seedling
s. Maneb was effective in controlling the disease in nursery beds (180
g a.i. 100-kg-1 of seeds) as well as in the seedlings (225 g a.i. 100
-L-1 of water). For secondary airborne infection in the main field, th
ree foliar sprays with IBP (48 mL a.i. 100-L-1 of water) at 15-day int
ervals after transplantation were effective; this treatment increased
paddy yield significantly.
