Based on the previously established consistency between the SU(q)(2) r
otor model and hybrid model descriptions of rotational spectra, the qu
antum algebraic parameter tau is connected with the deformation parame
ter beta as well as with the B(E2; 2(1)+ --> 0(1)+) transition probabi
lities of deformed nuclei. The correlations obtained are supported by
the experimental data and allow one to consider tau as a relevant meas
ure of decrease in nuclear deformation.
