The S-32 + Al-27 reaction was studied to investigate the deep inelasti
c collisions at a bombarding energy of 130 MeV which is well above the
Coulomb barrier. The energy distributions of the binary decay product
s of 6 less than or equal to Z less than or equal to 10 were determine
d using a large area position sensitive ionization chamber. The averag
e kinetic energies of the reaction products indicate that the exit sha
pes correspond to highly stretched scission configurations in the deep
-inelastic processes.
