The complex multi-disciplinary nature of helicopter stability predicti
on makes it appropriate from time to time to take stock of how analysi
s methods are developing. Current procedures for predicting helicopter
stability are reviewed. Much of the discussion is framed within the w
ider context of helicopter aeroelastic response analysis in general, a
nd emphasis is placed as much as possible on practical aspects of the
problem. Areas are identified in which future theoretical developments
and experimental Validation are likely to be most beneficial.
