Ak. Chakravarti, RESEARCH-AND-DEVELOPMENT STRATEGY IN ELECTRONICS - RESPONDING TO GLOBALIZATION NEEDS, Electronics information & planning, 22(5), 1995, pp. 223-239
The study has analysed the international R&D strategy in electronics t
o stay globally competitive. R&D has become very capital and knowledge
intensive and time-cycles have been drastically reduced. Therefore, s
trategic alliances, cost and risk sharing amongst companies (inter- an
d inter-countries), all governmental departments/agencies in the count
ry (amongst countries) joining hands to develop alliances with industr
y, various innovative ways to reduce the R,D&E cycle, concurrent engin
eering etc are constantly taking place on the basis of mutual strength
. To be a global player and thereupon a participant in global R&D stra
tegy, India would have to continuously nurture and build-up its own R&
D strength. In fact, India would have to step-up its own R&D effort. G
iven the limited resources in comparison to international R&D spending
, a Strategy for R&D in electronics in India have been developed and p
resented in this Study. This is also summarised in Figure 1 for ''at-a
-glance'' view. The purpose is to share the thoughts with the readers
and get their feedback.
