Abstract
A biomimetic synthesis of the iridal skeleton, giving access to possib le biogenetic intermediates of these triterpenoids from plants in the family Iridaceae or of the related triterpenoid, crystallopicrin, whic h has been isolated from various Cortinarius species, is described.
