Abstract
An analysis in presented of some relevant factors concerning the estab lishing and development of clinical psychology in Spain: Its place in the universities, publications, and scientific associations. Clinical psychology was consolidated in the academic field with the establishme nt of psychology training programs in Spanish universities, beginning in 1968. However, it was only during the decade of the 80's that the f irst course on Behavior Modification was taught in most universities. Journals on clinical and health psychology are a way of learning about new findings, and can be used as a form of quantifying the area. The third factor to take into consideration are scientific psychology asso ciations with a behavioral orientation; five of these associations cur rently exist, and each one of them has contributed in some degree to t he establishment of clinical psychology, both in the academic and in t he professional fields. Finally, a contemporary description of the cli nical psychologist in Spain is presented.
