SEISMIC BEHAVIOR OF BASE-ISOLATED BUILDINGS - A STATE-OF-THE-ART REVIEW

An updated state-of-the-art review of the behaviour of base-isolated b uildings to seismic excitation is presented. The review includes the l iterature on theoretical aspects of seismic isolation, parametric beha viour of base-isolated buildings and experimental studies to verify so me of the theoretical findings. A brief review of the earlier and curr ent base-isolation devices-proposed or implemented-is given, and aspec ts for future research in the area of base isolation are included.
