We study the behaviour of a solitary wave generated at the interface b
etween a layer of mercury and a layer of water, when entering a unifor
m continuous magnetic field. Measurements are performed using resistiv
e probes. It is found that when increasing magnetic field intensity, t
he amplitude of the wave decreases, its celerity remains unchanged and
its shape becomes asymmetrical.
