K. Takegoshi et al., MISCIBILITY AND MOLECULAR-MOTION OF POLY(METHYL ACRYLATE) POLY(VINYL ACETATE) BLEND AS STUDIED BY C-13 NMR IN THE SOLID-STATE, Polymer Journal, 27(3), 1995, pp. 284-291
Miscibility and molecular motion of a poly(methyl acrylate)/poly(vinyl
acetate) blend are studied by high-resolution solid-state C-13 NMR te
chniques. Observed H-1 relaxation times indicate that they are miscibl
e on the scale of 20-30 Angstrom. The temperature dependence of the C-
13 linewidth is examined to investigate effects of blending on molecul
ar motion of each component polymer. Two models for the temperature de
pendence of the correlation time of motion are examined. One is an Arr
henius dependence and the other is a WLF dependence. Both models expla
in the observed temperature dependence adequately. It is shown that by
blending molecular motions of PMA and PVAc becomes similar.
