Jg. Qin et al., DETERMINATION OF THE FIRST MOLECULAR HYPERPOLARIZABILITY, BETA, OF SOME ORGANOMERCURY COMPOUNDS BY SOLVATOCHROMISM, Synthetic metals, 71(1-3), 1995, pp. 1711-1712
Twelve arylmercuric nitrophenylacetylides, GRAPHICS (where D=I,Br,Cl
,MeO,EtO, Me,H2N,MeHN,Me(2)N or O2N; R(1)=H or Me; R(2)=H or Me), have
been synthesised, and their beta, the first molecular hyperpolarizabi
lity, have been examined by solvatochromism to be in the order of 10(-
29) esu while the lambda(max) in the electronic spectra are around 310
nm. These linear organomercury molecules may represent a new approach
to solve the conflict between increasing nonlinearity and improving tr
ansparency.
