Abstract
The exciton spectra have been investigated on thin films of beta-carot ene and related polyenes, having all-trans conformation. By using elec tro-modulation technique, it has been found that there is a one-photon forbidden n(1)A(g) exciton in beta-carotene film at about 4.0 eV abov e the lowest allowed 1(1)B(u) exciton at 2.25 eV at 77K.
