Abstract
Third-order nonlinear optical properties of d(8) transition metal comp
lexes with dimethylglyoxime, which have one-dimensional structure, hav
e been investigated by third harmonic generation. They showed large ab
sorption bands due to the d-p transition in the visible region. Third-
order nonlinear susceptibility was enhanced by a three photon resonanc
e effect at the band. Wavelength tunability of the d-p transition band
was also demonstrated by alloying the linear metal chains.
