X-ray absorption near edge structure and Rietveld refinement were perf
ormed in order to investigate the structural feature and the magnetic
origin of magnetoplumbite type nanometer sized (congruent to 50nm) fer
rite. The increase of covalency or the presence of higher oxidation st
ate (Fe4+) could not be observed in XANES. According to the Rietveld r
efinement, the Sr-ferrite has shorter bond distances because of the di
fference in ionic size. The larger magnetic value (H-c=6500 Oe) of Sr-
ferrite might be due to the reduced Fe-O bond distance which leads to
a stronger ferromagnetic coupling between the Fe3+ ions in the lattice
.
