Abstract
New surface alignment materials for surface stabilized ferroelectric l iquid crystal displays(SSFLCDs) are investigated. Rubbed polyconjugate d polymeric materials such as poly(1,4-phenylenevinylene)(PPV) are use d as orientation films in very thin FLC cells. The electro-optical pro perties of the SSFLC cells are examined. We have obtained realty good optical memory. These results are also compared with those of conventi onal SSFLC cells having rubbed polyimide orientational layers.
