Ion exchange isotherms for the ion-pairs Li+-Cs+, Na+-Cs+ and K+-Cs+ h
ave been measured for a cesium selective resorcinol-formaldehyde polyc
ondensate resin synthesized in the laboratory, The equilibrium data ha
ve been used to calculate the thermodynamic equilibrium constants as w
ell as standard free energies of ion exchange and thus arrive at a sel
ectivity series for the above ions. The high selectivity towards cesiu
m as compared to other alkali metal ions has been discussed in the lig
ht of existing theories and models of ion exchange phenomena.
