The efficacy of 5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA) enemas for maintaining r emission in left-sided ulcerative colitis is controversial because cli nical trials conducted thus far have given conflicting results (1-7). To further investigate this issue, we undertook a meta-analysis of the published studies.
