Abstract
We are developing an expert system to support the regional management of irrigated wheat in Egypt. The system will capture local expertise f or the management of irrigated wheat production through the integratio n of expert system technology and a crop simulation model. The system will aid planting date selection; water utilization and management; pe st monitoring, identification, and remediation; disease monitoring, id entification, and remediation; and harvest management. The methodologi es used are the generic task second-generation expert systems and the CERES crop simulation model. In agriculture, regional-level management of cropping, facilitated by systems such as this, will allow better u tilization of resources, especially water.
