New reactive dyes having good affinity for the fibre are obtained by i
ntroducing fluorine atoms into the vinylsulfone group of conventional
reactive dyes. this new reactive centre for dyes which form a covalent
link with the fibre is the SO2CF=CFCl group. Interaction of 1,2-dichl
orodifluoroethene with 4-N-methoxycarbonylaminothiophenol gives bonyla
minothiophenyl(2-chloro-1,2-difluoroetheynl) sulfone. Diazotization an
d coupling gives azo dyes which colour polyamide fibres from an alkali
ne dyebath, with formation of a covalent linkage.
