Abstract
Dioxomolybdenum(VI) complexes of bi- and tetradentate Schiff bases der ived from salicylaldehyde and amines such as p-anisidine, m-phenetidin e, p-toluidine, o-, m- and p-phenylenediamine and benzidine have been synthesised. Reactions of the bi- and tetradentate Schiff bases with M oO2 (acac)(2) in 2:1 and 1:1 ratios, respectively, gave diamagnetic mo lybdenum(VI) mononuclear complexes having the general formulas cis-[Mo O2(L)(2)] (LH = bidentate Schiff base,sal-AH, sal-PH or sal-TH), cis-[ MoO2(L(1))] (L(1)H(2) = tetradentate Schiff base with o-phenylenediami ne, sal-ophdH(2)), the ligand bridged dinuclear complexes, cis[Mo2O4(L (2)) (OCH3)(2)] (L(2)H(2) = tetradentate Schiff base with c- and p-phe nylenediamine,sal-m-phdH(2) or sal-p-phdH(2)) and cis [Mo2O4(L(3)) (OC H3)(2)(dmf)(2)] (L(3)H(2) = tetradentate Schiff base with benzidine,sa l-bzH(2)). These complexes were characterized by molar conductance, el emental analyses, IR, UV-vis, and H-1 NMR spectra and cyclic voltammet ry.
