Pediadol is a database produced by practising pediatricians, anesthesi
ologists, nurses, psychologists, neonatologists, and psychiatrists, wi
th the goal of helping physicians evaluate, prevent, and manage pain i
n pediatric patients. The bibliographic base of Pediadol includes 2000
references, of which 90% were published after 1990. Abstracts and key
words are available in French. A knowledge base with decision trees w
ill be available in the near future. Pediadol also provides informatio
n about new drugs, forthcoming symposia and training sessions, legisla
tive changes, and new books and video films on pain control. The elect
ronic mail system of Pediadol allows users to send their questions to
experts. Pediadol is a user-friendly teaching tool that makes scientif
ic information rapidly available to those who provide health care to p
ediatric patients, particularly nurses. Pediadol is accessible via the
French videotext network that is connected to over six million teleph
ones in France. Connections to Teletel and Pediadol are available in a
ll EEC countries. Pediadol, whose creation was decided on December 15t
h, 1994, at the Unesco Center in Paris, France, is supported by the Fr
ench Ministries of Health and Research and by grants from the Fondatio
n de France and the Institut Electricite Sante.
