Abstract
Successive deprotonations of uracil and 5-halogenouracils are displaye d in a wide pH range (6 < pH < 16). The conditional stability constant s and the molar absorbance of each protonated form have been determine d by simultaneous and spectrometric UV measurements. Besides, high per formance liquid chromatography (HPLC) allowed investigation of uracil chlorination by sodium hypochlorite solution in determined conditions. Advantages and disadvantages of both techniques are discussed and a c omparison made in terms of species detection.
