Abstract
We discuss the effect of the gluon dipole penguin operator in the ampl itudes for nonleptonic hyperon decays. Making explicit use of chiral s ymmetry, we clarify the circumstances under which direct and tadpole c ontributions could cancel, leading to a suppressed contribution.
