Abstract
In this review a number of the main epidemiological developments in th e field of udder health in the Netherlands are summarized. The changes considering the bulk milk somatic cell count are described, as are th e population dynamics of subclinical mastitis. Additionally, clinical mastitis caused by Escherichia coil and Staphylococcus aureus and thei r riskfactors are reviewed. Finally, some future developments and the possible applications of these developments are discussed.
