In this paper research about the pathogenesis of Escherichia coli mast
itis, executed by the Department of Herd Health and Reproduction, is r
eviewed. The use of experimental infection models to study the systemi
c clinical symptoms of an Escherichia coil mastitis and the effect of
anti-inflammatory drugs on this symptoms are described. Additionally,
correlations between pre-infection in vitro leucocyte function tests a
nd the severity of an Escherichia coli infection are discussed. Finall
y, some future developments and their possible applications are reveal
ed.
