Abstract
Eight novel [CpRu(eta(6)-arene)](+) O3SCF3- complexes and eight novel [CpRu(eta(6):eta(6)-diarene)RuCp*](2+) 2[O3SCF3-] complexes (where C p=C-5(CH3)(5)) were synthesized and characterized by H-1 and C-13 NMR spectrometry. Attempted synthesis of the pi-bound benzaldehyde deriva tive in methanol produced the unexpected ruthenium catalyzed benzaldeh yde dimethyl acetal. A ring coordination preference study using phenyl benzoate indicated only moderate preference for the aromatic ring bon ded to the oxygen atom in the unmetalated phenyl benzoate and an enhan ced preference for the aromatic ring bonded to the oxygen atom in the monometalated complex.
