The heterocyclic ligand, 2,6-bis(1(pyridin-2-yl)pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine
(1bppp) has been prepared by reacting the dipotassium salt of 2,6-bis(
pyrazol-3-yl)pyridine with 2-bromopyridine in diglyme. The crystal str
ucture of [Cu-2(1bppp) (CH3COO)(2)-(OH)](2)[PF6](2) . 2CH(3)OH has bee
n determined by single crystal X-ray diffractometry. The compound is m
onoclinic, space group P2(1)/c, a = 12.312(5), b = 15.614(3), c = 17.5
97(7) Angstrom, beta = 113.63(2)degrees. The structure was refined by
least-squares to a residual of 0.050 for 2689 observed reflections. On
e copper centre is five-coordinate with an N2O3 donor set and the othe
r copper centre is six-coordinate with an N2O4 donor set. This compoun
d is found to be a simple paramagnet obeying the Curie-Weiss law.
