S. Coutre et L. Leung, NOVEL ANTITHROMBOTIC THERAPEUTICS TARGETED AGAINST PLATELET GLYCOPROTEIN IIB IIIA/, Annual review of medicine, 46, 1995, pp. 257-265
Platelet aggregation is one of the best understood examples of adhesiv
e cell-cell interactions. The platelet glycoprotein IIb/IIIa membrane
receptor plays a pivotal role in platelet aggregation through its bind
ing of fibrinogen. it is intimately involved in the pathogenesis of pl
atelet-rich arterial thromboses. Th, IIb/IIIa receptor is an important
target for recently described novel antiplatelet therapeutics. The de
velopment and clinical evaluation of this class of antiplatelet therap
eutics are reviewed in this article.
