The development of still video CCD cameras with digital image storage
has made feasible the concept of offline, single sensor vision metrolo
gy. This paper reports on practical evaluations of such a system for d
imensional inspection of aircraft tooling and for structural monitorin
g for large scale engineering. A further application of still video te
chnology for low altitude aerial mapping is also reported. In each cas
e a Kodak DCS200 camera has been employed for the photography in order
to rake advantage of the relatively high sensor resolution and adequa
te on-board image storage capacity. Aspects of the measurement operati
ons, which yielded object space accuracies to 1:80 000 in the industri
al measurement projects, are discussed and the results analysed.
