Jar. Williams et al., THE DESIGN OF IN-FIBER BRAGG GRATING SYSTEMS FOR CUBIC AND QUADRATIC DISPERSION COMPENSATION, Optics communications, 116(1-3), 1995, pp. 62-66
Using a simple group delay model we calculate the dispersion terms of
quadratically chirped in-fiber Bragg gratings and hence the design par
ameters for using such devices to provide cubic and quadratic dispersi
on compensation. The model results are compared with numerical simulat
ions and we discuss how these devices may be used to produce the chara
cteristics required for dispersion compensation in fibre optic communi
cation systems. In particular we show that a system comprising a reali
zable pair of fibre-gratings could allow for the compensation, with a
bandwidth of 1 nm, of cubic dispersion equivalent to 800 km of standar
d optical fibre.
