A theory is developed for processes of bridge-assisted electronic tran
sitions between two metals, in which the bridge species interacts with
local oscillations or medium-polarization oscillations. These oscilla
tions are found to induce a unidirectional electron flow from one meta
l to the other. This mechanism is shown to also be true for tunneling
bridge-assisted contact of two long molecules. The potential dependenc
e of the electric current is calculated.
