Abstract
A general algebraic approach to the problem of nonlocal dynamical vari ables in the theory of 2D nonlinear lattices is discussed. The approac h is based on the study of an infinite dimensional Lie algebra of vect or-fields which are defined straightforwardly by the lattice equations , without using auxiliary linear problems.
