Vm. Radikevich et Ya. Romanov, THE SEA CURRENT INFERENCE FROM ICEBERGS D RIFT OBSERVATIONS IN THE PACIFIC SECTOR OF THE SOUTHERN-OCEAN, Okeanologia, 35(1), 1995, pp. 140-150
The possibility of the sea current inference from iceberg's drift obse
rvations is examined. The wind induced component, needed to be exclude
d from total iceberg's drift vector for receiving its sea current indu
ced component, was calculated from observed wind speed and direction u
sing the iceberg's wind drift coefficient and angle of drift deflectio
n from the wind estimated out of observations and also out of our theo
retical model. Surface current vectors in the Pacific sector of the So
uthern Ocean along 67 degrees S were received in such a manner for thr
ee horizontal scales: 10, 100 and 1000 km. The result is compared with
published charts of the geostrophic current and also with current est
imates by the ship Doppler current meter.
