La. Lyapina et al., ANTICOAGULANT FROM THE EXTRACT OF PEONY R ESTS - ISOLATION AND PROPERTIES, Izvestia Akademii nauk SSSR. Seria biologiceskaa, (2), 1995, pp. 249-251
A protein-free anticoagulant preparation displaying anticoagulative bu
t not fibrinolytic activity in vitro was isolated from peony. Electrop
horetic, chromatographic, and spectral analyses revealed that this ant
icoagulant resembles animal heparin: it contains sulfur, carbon, and n
itrogen in quantities characteristic of the latter. Plant heparin enha
nces anticoagulative and fibrinolytic plasma properties and decreases
platelet aggregation. It may be used as a harmless and ecologically pu
re anticoagulant.
