Abstract
A mean-field theory of liquid crystalline ordering in hydrogen bonded liquids is proposed. It is shown that hydrogen bonds may cause liquid crystalline ordering. For a simple example of spherical molecules cont aining hydrogen bonding functional groups the existence of a nematic p hase is predicted and the thermodynamics of the phase transition is di scussed.
