Inverarity et al. (1994) extended the model of Hevyaerts & Priest (199
2) for turbulent coronal heating in a sheared arcade, again achieving
the observed levels of heating but with improved mathematical consiste
ncy. A similar model for heating in a flux tube twisted by vortical ph
otospheric motions is here developed. Two models for the turbulence ar
e investigated: three-dimensional, helically isotropic turbulence and
two-dimensional turbulence, isotropic in the plane perpendicular to th
e background field. It is found that the three-dimensional turbulence
model can reproduce the observed levels of coronal heating. However, t
he purely two-dimensional model cannot be used when modelling steady-s
tate heating.
