POLYBLENDS OF THE CARBOXYLATED NITRILE RUBBER AND FLUOROELASTOMERS

The blends of carboxylated nitrile rubber with two different grades of fluoroelastomers (Viton) has been studied using different blending te chniques, but keeping all other parameters constant. The preblending t echnique gives better results because of the interpolymer reaction bet ween XNBR and Viton. IR spectra suggests an interaction between the tw o functional groups of the polymers. Preheating of the preblends befor e adding curatives improves the properties of the blend, and retards d egradation and weight loss. The preheating of the preblend also restri cts the extraction of the XNBR phase in solvents.
