Rt. Carter et Am. Akinsuluresmith, WHITE RACIAL IDENTITY AND EXPECTATIONS ABOUT COUNSELING, Journal of multicultural counseling and development, 24(4), 1996, pp. 218-228
Although there have been several studies that have explored people's e
xpectations about counseling, to date there has been no such explorati
on from a racial-cultural perspective. This study sought to explore th
e relationship between White racial identity attitudes and expectation
s about counseling. Although the results showed that men and women dif
fer in their expectations about counseling and in their levels of Whit
e racial identity attitudes, the findings of the study indicated that
there was no significant relationship between White racial identity at
titudes and counseling expectations. The results of the study are exam
ined in relation to previous findings in the field and directions for
future study are considered.
