In 1974, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) began to elabor
ate safety standards for nuclear power plants (NUSS). They comprise th
e government organization, siting, project design, operation, and qual
ity assurance aspects. Quality assurance refers to specific periods of
time in the operating history of a nuclear power plant and to methods
. The revised version is intended to put more emphasis on active quali
ty assurance. In Germany, quality assurance is based on the rules of t
he Nuclear Technology Committee (KTA). KTA rule 1401 concentrates on r
eactive quality assurance. The new set of IAEA regulations focuses mor
e on quality assurance as a management function.
