Achievements in the investigation of reactions of hydrolytic polyconde
nsation and copolycondensation of organochlorosilanes with various fun
ctionalities are reviewed, The use of these reactions in the synthesis
of organosiloxanes with various compositions and structures is consid
ered. The data on the reaction kinetics and the effects of reaction co
nditions, reagent ratio, and various additives on the course of the re
action are analyzed. Hydrochloric acid formed in the course of reactio
n significantly affects the process and the product composition by rev
erse reactions involving the Si-O bonds and the complex formation with
water. The methods used for the synthesis of organosiloxanes must all
ow for the features of mechanisms of hydrolytic polycondensation and c
opolycondensation. The methods of synthesis and the reaction abilities
of organosilanols as intermediates in the hydrolytic polycondensation
and copolycondensation of organochlorosilanes are considered. The use
of organosilanols in the synthesis of various organosiloxanes is disc
ussed.
