Quantitative relationship between the retention values, the parameters
a and c in retention equation lnk'=a+cC(b) and the solvatochromatic p
arameters in reversed-phase liquid chromatography (RP-HPLC) have been
studied. The capacity factors of polar and non-polar solutes at differ
ent organic modifier concentration can be predicted by the solvatochro
matic parameters through the prediction of parameters a and c. From th
e quantitative relationships of parameters a and c between the acetoni
trile/water and methanol/water mobile phases, it is shown that the hyd
rogen bonding solvatochromatic parameters play a significant role in i
mprovement of the quantitative relationship.
